Testimony: Hanne Leibmann
Hanne Liebmann sadly passed away in March 2026. A longtime volunteer at the KHC, she oversaw the KHC’s archives, sharing her experiences of survival and resistance with students and community members alike. Liebmann was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, and in this testimony, she describes pre-war antisemitism; her family’s deportation to the Gurs concentration camp in southern France, the refuge she was provided by community of Protestant pacificts in Le Chambon, France; her escape into Switzerland; and reflections about modern authoritarianism versus that of Nazi Germany.
