Register Now 10/13/23: Holocaust Education Professional Development Workshop

In 2022, the KHC joined the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s (USHMM) Community of Holocaust Education Centers (CHEC), a dedicated network of organizations that participate in trainings, learn about new resources, and engage with peers across the country.

As a result of this new collaboration between the KHC and USHMM, we are holding a two-part professional development workshop designed specifically for faculty and staff at the community college level, and is open to educators, student affairs and DEI professionals, interfaith leaders, and museum staff.

In Part One (virtual on Zoom), participants will learn why a foundation in Holocaust education is vital to making connections between the past and the present, and how to do so addressing the unique needs of community college students. The program includes a discussion with faculty across various disciplines who have developed related pedagogy, an exploration of USHMM’s online resources, an introduction to the unique local resources of the KHC, and a practical educator demo of these resources by a USHMM Museum Teacher Fellow.

In Part Two (in person), participants who attended the first session are invited to an in-person session at the KHC, located on the campus of Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens. Attendees will get a guided tour of the Center’s latest original exhibition, “The Concentration Camps: Inside the Nazi System of Incarceration and Genocide,” hear direct testimony from a local Holocaust survivor, and gather for group discussion to debrief and address the challenges and benefits for bringing this difficult content into the college classroom.

Registration confirms your participation for the virtual workshop on October 13th. Additional information will be provided to attendees about the optional follow up session held in person at the Kupferberg Holocaust Center on October 20th.
