KHC Honors the First Graduates of the Dr. Sandra Delson Community Engagement Team
This past June, the Kupferberg Holocaust Center hosted its first docent training for the 2017-2018 Dr. Sandra Delson Community Engagement Team Cohort. After a lengthy application process, the weeklong training provided 7 new volunteers with the tools necessary to lead future tours and presentations. Sessions facilitated by Dr. Ronald Van Celeef, Dr. Dan Leshem, Marisa Hollywood, and Dr. Cary Lane, included: historical context on the Center, Holocaust, and other Genocides, and involved hands on experience leading tours and sharing survivor’s testimonies. After completing their initial training, the new docents will begin giving supervised tours this Fall. Excited by their new skills, docents completed the program stating the following: “I’m excited to be a docent at the Holocaust Center,” and “I learned how I can help make an important contribution to my community.” This program will allow the KHC to offer tours to greater numbers of community groups and visitors as well as add additional gallery hours in the future. Dr. Sandra Delson is a longtime supporter of the KHC and serves as Advisory Board member. Her generous support of this program will allow the KHC to offer trainings for new docents each summer for a period of 10 years.
